Mud Crab

Well, I have been on vacation for the past week or so and seem to have totally forgotten about keeping this blog of inspiration. I am still on my nautical/sea creatures kick that I seem to have been on for my entire life. I'm pretty sure at this point that I was meant to be a mermaid... or a lighthouse keeper. I realized recently that I haven't given crabs (har har) enough of my attention, and they are really pretty great.

Sarah Hood

is my new favorite jewelry artist. I have seen her work before, and I finally decided to check out her website. Amazing! I especially like the organic collection.... and the landscape collections... and spice. basically I am floored by this jewelry. This is the kind of artwork that makes me wish I had thought of it. anyways, here's the link to her website. her work is definitely worth checking out.

Rattlesnake

today I have been thinking about bone structures, specifically, the snake's. there are so many particulars that go into making an animal like this actually work. the snake's jaw can unhinge in order to swallow its food whole. for the same reason, it has no sternum.

Glaucus atlanticus

... or blue sea slug. I think a common theme of inspiration for my posts this summer is going to be wildlife, and ocean life in particular. honestly the thing that I find most intriguing about this nudibranch is that it looks like a mythical creature. I find it amazing that this species actually exists in the physical world, not just in some story book.

Inspiration

I just started learning about woodcut printing, and I LOVE it! One artist that I'm finding particularly inspiring right now is Barry Moser. His prints are absolutely amazing. The one on the right is called "Jonah." I love his work because he manages to carve the lines in so much detail that they appear to vibrate when you view them.

There is only a day and half of school left before Thanksgiving break, and I have totally checked out of my classes. All I can think about is seeing my family and eating mashed potatoes and gravy. And pie. I cannot think of any food I love more than pie. Only 4 classes, 1 shift, and a 2 hour car ride stand between me and home right now, and that is all I can think about.
